<h2>A house divided&nbsp;</h2>Perhaps the most concerning aspect of the recent hearings featuring Dr. Fauci was not the numerous admissions that he made, but the diametrically opposed ways in which Republicans and Democrats reacted to Fauci's testimony.&nbsp;This is, unfortunately, not a new occurrence. Dr. Fauci has been interviewed by Congress many times over the past few years; the Democrats have unwaveringly supported Fauci while the Republicans have sought to hold him to account for lying to Congress.In August 2023, David Rufful, in an opinion piece for Analyzing America about what he considered Fauci's 3 biggest lies, <a href="https://www.analyzingamerica.org/2023/08/693672/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">stated</a>:&nbsp;<blockquote>Former White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci is officially the subject of a “criminal referral” sent by Congressman Rand Paul to the U.S. Department of Justice. Senator Paul says there has never been “a clearer case of perjury in the history of government testimony” after Fauci allegedly lied under oath.. . .“The problem is there are partisans littered throughout the legal system, and people are seeing this. You don’t get prosecuted if you’re a Democrat under this administration, no matter what you do,” Paul concluded.</blockquote>In fact, not only do the two parties not see “eye-to-eye”, one would be forgiven for thinking they had frequently attended two different hearings.&nbsp;A case in point is the most recent testimony that Fauci gave to members of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, on January 8 - 9, &nbsp;during which they asked him questions regarding the origins of COVID-19 and the pandemic countermeasures.&nbsp;<h2>Republican review of Fauci's testimony</h2>Revelations from the testimony, as <a href="https://wenstrup.house.gov/updates/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=408005" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">detailed</a> by the Chairman of the subcommittee, Republican Brad Wenstrup, included: (Emphasis added.)Dr. Fauci answered more than 100 times “I don’t recall” to pertinent COVID-19 information or conversations.Dr. Fauci also “didn't recall” multiple times during a hearing held in November 2022. Fauci stated that “it sort of just appeared.”Dr. Fauci testified that he signed off on every foreign and domestic NIAID grant proposal without ever reading any of them.Dr. Fauci was forced to backtrack&nbsp;on his insistence that no gain-of-function research was conducted in Wuhan that was financed by the NIH, saying that he shouldn’t have stated that as fact.&nbsp;Dr. Fauci could not confirm if NIAID has ANY mechanisms to conduct oversight of the foreign laboratories they fund.Dr. Fauci acknowledged that the lab leak hypothesis is not a conspiracy theory. It is clear that dissenting opinions were often not considered or suppressed completely. Should a future pandemic arise, America’s response must be guided by scientific facts and conclusive data. (Emphasis added.)</blockquote><h2>Democrat review of Fauci's testimony</h2>In contrast to the Republicans, the Democrats weren't disturbed by Fauci's testimony. They did not have a list of takeaways or discuss any of what was learned from Fauci about the countermeasures. Instead, they responded to the Republicans' comments on the hearings and what they saw as the motivation behind them. They were incensed with the Republicans’ line of questions and their conclusions, as StatNews <a href="https://www.statnews.com/2024/01/09/anthony-fauci-covid-congress/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>:&nbsp;<blockquote>Committee Democrats, meanwhile, have painted the two-day session as a politically-motivated probe that is stalling progress in infectious disease preparedness and vaccination efforts.. . .</blockquote><blockquote>Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) said that Fauci “made it very clear that he is open-minded about wherever this virus came from, from the market, or it came from the lab,” but also clarified the definition of the gain-of-function field, which involves making viruses more transmissible or potent to study their spread. This type of research was reauthorized in 2017 under the Trump administration. (Emphasis added.)</blockquote> Dingell obfuscated. And his institute and NIH has a process that is followed where the appropriate people with authorities review things. And that’s the process that he laid out,” Dingell said. Republicans have relied on conjecture to build their extreme, conspiratorial narrative to vilify Dr. Fauci under the guise of determining the pandemic’s origins with nothing to show for it. Today, we are no closer to better understanding how COVID-19 came to be.“While Republicans used today’s transcribed interview to continue their politically driven fishing expedition, Democrats focused on examining lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic that could inform forward-looking reforms, including strengthening efforts to prevent future outbreaks—regardless of their origin—and bolstering our pandemic preparedness and public health infrastructure. (Emphasis added.)</blockquote>After the second day's testimony, Ruiz again <a href="https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/news/press-releases/ranking-member-ruiz-s-statement-following-conclusion-of-voluntary-transcribed" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">stated</a> that the hearing had reaffirmed what was already known about the origins of COVID-19 and that Republicans had gone on a fishing expedition:<blockquote>The second day of Dr. Fauci’s voluntary transcribed interview has once again reaffirmed the same conclusion . . . [of] every COVID-19 origins hearing that we’ve had to date. Nothing we have heard over the last two days or in any of these proceedings has shown that there was a cover-up of the pandemic’s origins, suppression of the lab leak theory, any effort to influence the CIA’s origins assessment, or plot to orchestrate the Proximal Origin paper on the part of Dr. Fauci.</blockquote><blockquote>“So that the American public can see through this extreme fishing expedition for themselves, I urge my Republican colleagues to make the full transcript of Dr. Fauci’s 14-hour testimony public as soon as possible.” (Emphasis added.)</blockquote><h3>Inconvenient truths best ignored&nbsp;</h3>Dingel and Ruiz neglected to comment on the more than 100 times that Dr. Fauci could not recall information, his admission that he had no data to back up the requirement for 6 foot social distancing, and many of his other admissions listed by Wenstrup in his takeaways.<h2>What U.S. citizens have learned</h2>While it may be useful for Americans to read the testimony and see for themselves what actually transpired during the hearings, in the end, it may not matter.It may be that the greatest takeaway from this testimony is that no progress will be made in addressing future health concerns or any other problems that might arise if partisan politics and “the blame game” cannot be set aside to address the American public's best interests.

A British vigilante group known as the “Blade Runners” is receiving widespread support from British taxpayers as it continues to destroy climate surveillance cameras across London.<h2>The ULEZ mandate</h2>By order of London Mayor Sadiq Khan, the city is peppered with ultra-low emission zones (ULEZs), areas accessible only to low-emission vehicles. Cars that do not meet the city’s environmental standards are charged £12.50 ($16) for entering the ULEZ. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras positioned around the zones read license plates and check them against the vehicles’ make and model in real time. If a vehicle does not meet the environmental threshold, a fine is levied against the car owner.&nbsp;The ULEZ climate mandate has drawn heavy&nbsp;<a href="https://frontline.news/post/london-hundreds-protest-against-climate-mandates">protests</a> from residents, including&nbsp;<a href="https://frontline.news/post/british-veteran-launches-hunger-strike-as-unrest-grows-over-climate-mandates">hunger strikes</a> and refusals to pay fines. Taxpayers have also taken to disabling the ANPR surveillance cameras which Transport for London (TfL), the city’s transportation department, said will be used both for climate and law enforcement.<h2>Taxpayers cheer the ‘Blade Runners’</h2>Since the climate restrictions were expanded last year, the Blade Runners have taken to disabling and destroying hundreds of cameras. Some surveillance vans have been spotted covered in graffiti with their tires slashed, while others have been completely covered in tarp.Last month, 21 cameras were destroyed in the hours after Sadiq Khan was re-elected mayor of London, the&nbsp;Daily Mail&nbsp;<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13538797/Moment-Blade-Runner-uses-power-tool-cut-ULEZ-camera-traffic-light-latest-attack-Sadiq-Khans-hated-scheme.html">reported</a>. Last weekend, Blade Runners used power tools to topple a ULEZ camera and traffic lights to the delight of some fellow taxpayers. In a video that was posted to social media, passing cars can be heard honking in support.The video received over 37,000 likes. Comments on the post were largely supportive, with users writing that, “When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty,” and “Fair play to them, it's a complete scam that does nothing.”Blade Runner Matt Hardy told the&nbsp;Daily Mail&nbsp;that the Blade Runners are “people pissed off about the tyranny reigning over us and getting out and doing things about it – real votes, real boys here.”<h2>‘These cameras are not about the climate. They are about control’</h2>British actor and influencer Laurence Fox said this week he was just given back his electronic devices by police after being arrested earlier this year for cheering on the Blade Runners:<blockquote>These cameras are not about the climate. Other EV industry players are also cutting their losses as they jump ship.<h2>Hertz</h2>In March, Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr&nbsp;<a href="https://www.motorfinanceonline.com/news/hertz-ceo-resigns-amid-ev-investment-setback/#:~:text=Scherr's%20departure%20coincides%20with%20Hertz's,electric%20vehicle%20(EV)%20rentals">resigned</a> after his bet on EVs cost the car rental giant its biggest quarterly loss since 2020. Hertz had been praised by the Biden administration for its ambition to convert 25% of its fleet to EVs by the end of this year. In January, however, the company announced it would instead be selling its 20,000 EVs — including Teslas — at heavily discounted prices and replacing them with gas-powered cars.<h2>Mercedes-Benz</h2>Mercedes-Benz also recently had to give up its ambition to only sell electric cars by 2030. Instead, EVs are expected to make up only 50% of the German carmaker’s sales over the next decade.<h2>Apple</h2>In February, Apple abandoned its multi-billion dollar effort to create an electric car. Despite being a decade in the works and employing 2,000 people, Project Titan was axed due to falling consumer demand.<h2>Aston Martin</h2>A lack of consumer demand is also partly to blame for Aston Martin&nbsp;<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13138123/Aston-Martin-puts-brakes-new-electric-supercar-2026-bosses-say-drivers-want-engines-throaty-roar.html">placing</a> its battery-operated “supercar” on hold until 2026.“Demand, certainly at an Aston Martin price point, is not what we thought it was going to be two years ago,” said Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll.&nbsp;<h2>Ford</h2>In December, Ford slashed production of its flagship EV at its assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan by half. The automaker cut the monthly production quote for the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck from 3,200 units to 1,600 units per month.<h2>Biden administration continues to force EV production</h2>Nevertheless, the Biden administration in March issued new climate mandates aimed at forcing more EV production. The new rules from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contain tight emissions standards that will&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epa-electric-vehicles-emissions-limits-climate-biden-e6d581324af51294048df24269b5d20a">require</a> 56% of new vehicle sales to be fully electric by 2032, with an additional 13% required to be hybrids.

For the last two years, British authorities have been testing AI-powered emotion recognition cameras on travelers in train stations, according to recently disclosed documents.<h2>What can the cameras see?</h2>In each of eight train stations around the UK, five to seven cameras or sensors scan the passing crowds. Using AI software from Amazon, the cameras use object recognition algorithms to spot criminal activity, trespassing, weapons, wet floors, overcrowding, and overstuffed trash cans.&nbsp;They can also alert authorities when passengers engage in “unusual behavior,” such as shouting, running, smoking, or skateboarding.&nbsp;A combination of existing cameras and newly installed smart cameras are being used for the surveillance project. All are equipped with Amazon’s Rekognition surveillance system.<h2>Emotional recognition</h2>Through a combination of facial and behavioral analyses, the Rekognition software allows officials to also <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-ai-cameras-emotions-uk-train-passengers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">analyze visitors’ emotions</a>. Internal documents note that the cameras can detect whether a passenger is “happy, sad [or] angry.” They can also recognize passenger satisfaction, which “could be utilized to maximum advertising and retail revenue.”<h2>Anti-social behavior</h2>Authorities can also detect passengers who exhibit “anti-social behaviour,” which&nbsp;<a href="https://www.met.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/asb/asb/antisocial-behaviour/what-is-antisocial-behaviour/">according</a> to London’s Metropolitan Police Service means “behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household as the person.”<h2>Social distancing, face masks, and demographics</h2>Other&nbsp;<a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24757655-usecases_dpas_review_managed_stations?responsive=1&amp;title=1">use cases</a> for the surveillance cameras include detecting whether passengers are keeping to social distancing rules and wearing face masks. The cameras can also scan for demographics by identifying people’s age profiles and “socio-economic classification,” which the documents note can create “revenue opportunities for better targeted advertising and product placement.”<h2>‘Quite a concerning step’</h2>The documents were obtained by Big Brother Watch, a civil rights and government watchdog group, in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. Network Rail, a body within the Department of Transportation which manages most of the country’s train network, has been overseeing the surveillance project.&nbsp;“The rollout and normalization of AI surveillance in these public spaces, without much consultation and conversation, is quite a concerning step,” Jake Hurfurt, head of research and investigations at Big Brother Watch,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-ai-cameras-emotions-uk-train-passengers/">told</a> Wired.As of now, the surveillance systems do not use facial recognition technology, which analyzes faces and matches them against facial images stored in certain databases.
